Hier im Minho, einer der schönsten Gegenden Portugals, scheint das Leben leicht und sorglos – und dieses Lebensgefühl ist auch überall auf der Quinta zu spüren. Das rote Ziegeldach, die Steinmauern und die Fassade in gelb und Ockertönen fügen sich natürlich in die Umgebung ein und lassen bereits das gemütliche Inneren des Hauses erahnen. Hier gibt es keinen Prunk oder falschen Schein. Man fühlt sich einfach wohl in den großzügigen Räumen mit Zimmerdecken aus Holz und steinernen Kaminen. Da die meisten Unterkünfte vom Haupthaus getrennt liegen und mit je einem Wohn- und einem Esszimmer ideal für Selbstversorger sind, können Sie Ihren Urlaub noch ungestörter verbringen. In nur 10km Entfernung liegen Viana do Castelo, eine der schönsten historischen Städte Nordportugals und viele einladende Sandstrände (das Meer ist hier allerdings etwas kälter als in Südportugal), und auch das spanische Galizien liegt ganz in der Nähe.

Beautifully restored

The Quinta is located in the middle of some vineyard and is beautifully restored, with very nice surroundings. Isabel, the owner, gave us a very friendly welcome. The rooms are very spacious, nicely decorated and comfortable.

The Kitchenette has all that is needed to have a simple meal and the breakfast provided is of very good quality, with fresh bread, I believe home made jams. There is a choice between rooms in the restored house or in new apartments, which fit very well with the decor. We stayed in the old buildings.

Viana do Castello, the most nearby town, is a very nice place, currently applying for World Heritage town status and where you can find a lot of good, affordable restaurants (the north of Portugal is significantly cheaper than Algarve).

Viana do Castelo
The nearest town to Quinta da Bouça d’Arques is also one of the prettiest in northern Portugal. Deserving special mention are the mother-church, the ancient Paços do Concelho (both Gothic), Casa da Misericórdia (Mannerist, with a sacred art treasure), the medieval Casa dos Arcos, the convent of Santa Ana (16th-century), and the Regional Museum. Up above and dominating the city is the sanctuary of Santa Luzia, with a fantastic view of the town, the river and the ocean.

Porto
(Classified in the UNESCO World Heritage list) The North’s most important city lent its name to the famous wine and to Portugal. One must stroll around its typical quarters (especially the area on the waterside, the zona ribeirinha) and its bustling downtown. To visit: the Stock Exchange Palace, the Romanesque-Gothic Cathedral, the church of Cedofeita (Romanesque), the Clérigos tower (Porto’s ex-libris of Baroque architecture) and church; the church of São Francisco, of Romanesque origin, with its interior all covered with gilded carvings, and the church of Carmo, with tiled façades. Museums: Soares dos Reis, Casa de Serralves (contemporary art), Casa-Museu de Guerra Junqueiro and the Romantic Museum of Quinta da Macieirinha. One should not miss a visit to the wine cellars in Vila Nova de Gaia and free tastings of the famous port wine.
