Sometimes it might seem a bit clichéd to use words such as unique, but in the case of the Rotarius B & B, it is pretty much justified.

It is, in one word, singular - a 13^th century palace tower in the town centre of Asti, Piedmont. Getting there is by way of going up 62 steps and once there you will be gob smacked.

First of all, it is just one suite set in a stunning medieval tower (Yes, one suite, you have the place all to yourself). Secondly it is 254 square feet in size filled with period pieces and design furniture. This combination of medieval and contemporary has been beautifully done under the auspices of talented architects Elisabetta Tovo and Filippo Cornero. They sure know a thing or two about style and elegance, that’s for sure.

The mix is inspiring: ceramics, wood mixed in with high speed Internet access and even a plasma TV.

Then there are the views from the two biforate windows which take not only the mountains but the old town from the private terrace.

We like it how a previous guest once described the Rotarius. The only drawback is that all other accommodations will look dowdy compared to this one. Oh well.

Out and about- Asti

Asti is simply delightful, one of Piedmont’s oldest medieval towns and known the world over for it’s wines.

It is also renowned for the “Palio”, one of the most historical horse races in Italy. On the third Sunday in September, the Palio parades 1200 medieval costumed actors and 21 horses culminating in a bareback horse race.
