Relais Villa San Martino is in the middle of a pretty park, not too far from Martina Franca – a small town famous for its summer opera festivals and stone walls that envelop the old part of this Baroque city.

San Martino is an elegant “masseria” (country house) dating from the 18th century and decorated with local antiques and Louis XVI-style furnishings, ancient paintings, sophisticated silks and excellent prints hanging from the walls – an invitation to serenity and subdued conversation.
The 21 bedrooms follow the same arrangement: quiet, ample, warm, refined, and brimming with silks and damasks in blue, gold, green and rose. Large beds, TV and DVD, jacuzzi in the bathrooms – comfort hand in hand with good taste.

The hotel has a spa as well as an excellent restaurant (Duca di Martina) that serves gourmet Mediterranean food with fresh local produce – and with a wine list that deserves a special mention. A grand flight of stairs will bring us down to manicured gardens with a swimming pool and a gazebo. Villa San Martino offers sauna, hammam and massages.

There is a billiards room, and we can practice cycling around the estate and the park with its eucalyptus, pine and olive trees. Should you feel like exploring the surroundings, then its worth noting this is the heel of the Italian “boot”, halfway between Monopoli and Taranto with a coastlines that wash both sides of the "shoe".
